Write for us

Yes, you. We’re always looking for new authors to join our community. If you live and breath the outdoors; or have an innate passion for writing about lawn care, gardening, landscaping, and/or outdoor living then we would love to hear from you.

    What we’re looking for

You may submit a rough draft, a partial draft, or a short pitch (a paragraph or two summarizing your argument and why it matters to our readers) paired with an outline. The more complete your submission is, the better feedback we can give you. Keep in mind that we only accept original content—we do not publish anything that’s been published elsewhere (including on your blog).

If you’re a representative of a lawn care or landscaping company, that’s great! We would love to set up an interview giving you the opportunity to share your story and chat about what it’s like to own and operate your lawn care or landscaping company. (Like this article here.)

However, please don’t send us press releases or sales pitches. They will simply be ignored.

Before you submit, please peruse our recent articles for insight into structuring and formatting your article. But don’t be afraid to challenge the status quo. If you have a creative idea for an article, by all means, let us know! We do enjoy trying new things.

    Make sure your submission:

    • Is accurate, informative, and genuinely interesting for those who stumble upon your hard work.
    • Has a voice. It’s okay to be human, especially considering our audience and community are chock full of ‘em!
    • Is written for an audience of lawn care, gardening, landscaping, and outdoor living gurus and professionals.
    • Has a clear direction. The more specific the article (like this one about mosquitos) the better.
    • Is formatted with headers, subheaders, and paragraphs. Please don’t submit a big block of text, we won’t even read it.

    What we publish

We publish articles of anywhere between 600–2,500 words, depending on subject complexity. 1,000 words is about average. Articles may be casual in tone and content—great for less-intensive tutorials and posts—or rigorously structured and edited. All should be well-considered explorations of current and cutting-edge topics in the lawn care and landscaping industry.

How to submit (and next steps)

Email us your submission. We prefer submissions as Google documents so that editors can easily provide feedback and guidance directly within your draft. You may also send us a plaintext file or a Word document.

After you hit send, an editor will review your submission to determine whether or not it is ready to be published on our site. The editor will provide feedback and provide constructive criticism. (We rarely accept the article the first time around, but we’ll definitely let you know if we’re interested in working with your piece.)

Once you’ve addressed our feedback we will get the article published as soon as possible and notify you that it’s up live on the site.
